5 March 2026 – Focus on satellite communications technologies
The Institute for Communications Systems and High-Frequency Technology at the University of the Bundeswehr Munich had the honor of welcoming State Secretary Jens Plötner from the German Federal Ministry of Defence (BMVg).
During his visit, in the presence of the President of the University of the Bundeswehr Munich, Prof. Eva-Maria Kern, and the Vice President for Research, Prof. Geralt Siebert, State Secretary Plötner was informed about the institute’s technical support to the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) in the field of satellite communications. The program also included presentations on selected research and technology projects currently being conducted at the institute.
A particular focus of the visit was the institute’s expertise in the further development of SATCOMBw, the satellite-based communication system of the Bundeswehr. Current technological developments, future perspectives, and potential contributions of the institute to the advancement of military satellite communications were discussed in detail.
At the conclusion of the visit, the institute’s director, Prof. Andreas Knopp, presented State Secretary Plötner with an institute coin as a token of appreciation and a remembrance of the exchange.
